Membership in Alpha Sigma Tau provides young women the experiences and tools they need to excel in life. Through both formal programs like Illuminate or leadership sessions at national events and informal opportunities like working with a group of peers or holding an officer position, members develop the skills they need to grow into the best version of themselves.
Illuminate is Alpha Sigma Tau's peer-facilitated four-year member development program. Our chapter utilizes the program by having each class (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) select a competency they'd like to learn more about. Then a Sister from each of those classes leads a program on the competency. During the program, not only do we learn important skills that will help us in our lives after college, but we get to know our Sisters on a deeper level and have conversations that might have never come up in our day-to-day lives. Illuminate programs build on one another year after year, and we're able to choose which competencies we think are most valuable to our class at the time.
As Alpha Sigma Tau members, we have access to MoneySmarts, an online learning platform that utilizes videos, calculators, charts, infographics, and more to help us start our financial lives on the right foot. Oftentimes, financial wellness isn't taught in school, but it's a necessary life skill. Women are affected by money in unique ways, but Alpha Sigma Tau is taking an active role in closing the financial literacy gender gap.
